How to Get Married in Jamaica

In the short, yes! the legalities and rules are dependent on the venue, but any professional photographer your work with should be able to work this out and advise you.










The Legalities


To get married in Jamaica, you'll need to:

  • Apply for a marriage license

    You can apply for a marriage license within 24 hours of arriving in Jamaica. 

  • Gather required documents

    You'll need to provide the following documents: 

    • Proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate 

    • Official photo ID, such as a passport or driver's license 

    • Written consent from parents if either applicant is under 18 

    • Certified copy of death certificate if either applicant is widowed 

    • Certified final divorce papers if either applicant was previously married 

    • Translations of documents in non-English 

    • Processing fee of JM$4000 (less than US$40) 

  • Choose a marriage officer

    You can request a marriage officer when you apply for your marriage license. 

  • Contact a wedding planner or the Registrar General's Department

    You can contact a wedding planner or the Registrar General's Department about two weeks before the wedding. 

  • Pay the stamp duty

    You'll need to pay a stamp duty of JM$4,000 at the Stamp Duty Office in Kingston, Jamaica. The marriage license form will be stamped after payment. 

You can get married at a hotel or tour operator, and most travel agents can assist with planning. Some hotels require documents at least six weeks before the wedding.
